For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

There was a funny cartoon about Mount Rushmore a few years ago.

The cartoon was making fun of America's education system. In the cartoon

there was a school bus parked next to Mount Rushmore. On the side of the

bus it said "U.S History Class". The kids hop off the bus. A couple of the kids

point at Mount Rushmore and exclaim "Wow! Hey Bob! Look! Its the Beatles!"

You must be grey to be on the mountain silly.

And Bush II well I'm sure he could rig it to get elected to be included.

I guess no Obama or Bush II then

They really can not add to the mountain, particualrly to Washington's right.  The stone is too soft for carving.  Originally, the plan was to carve the four down to their waists, but the war finally came to the US and that plan was abandoned.  Remember it was completed in late 1941.

FDR was too busy fighting those pesky Natzis to have time to be put on a mountain.

I think other "candidates" for a "modern-day  Mount Rushmore" might be:

On the right: Reagan, Eisenhower

On the left: Kennedy, FDR, Truman, Clinton

Can they add to it or is the mountain/cliff full? Because maybe a few after 1941 could be up there like JFK, Reagan, etc.

Rushmore, basic facts:

The motivation behind Mount Rushmore was to encourage tourism.  It began in 1927 and was not completed until 1941.  The reason for choosing those four Presidents was at that time they were considered the four best during the country’s first 150 years.
