For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

@Richard. There is a height requirement for the Royal Guard in Denmark. you must be more than 175 cm. or else you have to apply to another regiment in the Danish Army.

During the first day of guard service, all of the soldiers are arranged by height and cut into 3 equally large guard units.

Therefore I will only go on guard duty with soldiers who are almost my height.

A 21 year old version of me. This is the normal everyday uniform in the Danish army.

This is during the guard service at the Danish palaces. We would wear these uniforms during the 24-hour shift. When inside we can remove the bear skin hats.

Hi Everyone

I will be speaking about my experience in the Danish army and more specifically the Royal Guard.

I started at the barracks of the Royal Guards as a mobile infantry recruit on December 2nd 2002. After 4 weeks, I was tapped to go to the Danish Army Sergeant School and I started at the sergeant school in mid February. I was promoted to sergeant in November and I received my unit of recruits on December 2nd 2003 and I was discharged as a civilian 1 year later after I had finished ordinary army service at the barracks and guard service at the Danish palaces.

I did not go to a mission area during my time in the military. During my time in the army, Denmark had infantry soldiers in combat areas in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq at the time, but the system at the time made it a personal choice, if you wanted to go to a mission area.

On Thursday I will be talking about the experiences I had in the military. I will introduce some of the equipment that I used. I will tell a few stories about the training and the friendships that develop during military service.

I have a little riddle for you and I will give you the answer on Thursday: What does the Royal Guard have in common with the Red Square in Moscow and the Danish winner of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest?

I look forward to telling you all some stories about 2 years of my life that has had a tremendous impact on my life.

See you all Thursday.

/Daniel
