For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

The long route of 183km is of course the ultimate challenge of the Granfondo Yanbian. Total altitude gain is 2050 Hm, which even though respectable does not fully justify the difficulty of the route - especially should there be a headwind. Riding out of Yanji, a number of "false flats" or ondulating roads need to be negotiated, which will be a good warm-up for the legs. Turning right from the main road at Helong, the first serious and longer climb is next. A few kilometers of uphill towards the village of Jiashan(km 86). This climb actually only prepares the riders for the biggest obstacle of the day: a long climb of about 15km that leads up to 1400m altitude! Brilliant views over the area will certainly reduce the painful feeling some might feel in the legs here. Following the fast but rather straightforward descent on wide roads, the route flattens out slightly before hitting the final 30km, which should not be underestimated with several ups and downs of significant gradient. After over 150km, this is where the strongest riders will make the difference.

The first ever official granfondo event in China: Yanji and the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin Province will enter the history books. After a colourful and undoubtedly magnificent Opening Ceremony, all participants will parade through the city before the official start at 10 a.m. Beautiful scenery and good roads await the cyclists for a great day out on the bike, each with his or her own ambition: to finish the long course of 183km, maybe even get a top 10 result, or... maybe the medium (approx 100km) or short-distance (40km) is enough for the day.
