For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Event Description

Capoeira

What is Capoeira?

Capoeira originates from Brazilian martial art infused with dance and elements of game play, music and folklore. Today Capoeira is an even broader concept referring to the art of personal development on a both physical and intellectual level. Capoeira classes incorporate a number of elements:

Music and Rhythmic

One of the key elements of Capoeira classes is singing and playing original Brazilian instruments, such as:

berimbau (bow-like instrument), atabaque (a drum) and pandeiro (similar to a tambourine). Since Capoeira is so deeply rooted in its culture during our classes we also learn Brazilian folk dances such as maculele (afro-brasilian tribal war dance with wooden clubs) and other Brazilian and African folk music compositions. All these elements allow us to develop their sense of rhythm and balance as well as their manual skills. What is more, we can also acquire basic Portuguese vocabulary, since Portuguese is an official language of Brasil and all the songs during the classes are sung in Portuguese.

Gymnastics and aerobics with elements of martial arts

All the classes begin with a special muscles and joint warm-up with the focus on preparing us for intense physical exercise. The classes are mostly conducted through game play. Through these games we learn coordination, self-awareness, self-defense, and strategic thinking. This part of Capoeira classes focuses mostly on our psychomotoric skills.

Acrobatics

This is the part of the classes in which we get to know the basic elements of acrobatics, while being under a constant care of the coach.  These elements are used during „roda”(circle)time , which is the ultimate form of Capoeira.

Who is the coach?

The coach is Michael Dziobkowski aka Impolgado (Capoeira alias), who for the last 15 years has been gathering experience in various form of martial arts such as: Taekwondo, Judo, Boxing, and acrobatics.

In 2003 he joined a Capoeira group called Beribazu. In order to learn different methods of training and teaching. Impolgado took part in various workshops and trainings all over Europe, training with the most respected coaches like: Mestre George, Mestre Acordeon, Mestre Toni Vargas, Mestre Barrao, Mestre King Kong, Mestre Luiz Renato, Mestre Umoi;

How can you benefit from playing Capoeira?

Capoeira improves stamina, and strengthens muscles. It gives a sense of safety and greater confidence, shapes  our interests and can positively affect our development in one of the areas promoted by Capoeira (music, art., martial arts, acrobatics).
