For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Event Description

It is with great excitement and esteemed pleasure that we announce the opening of the Grand Chang Chun Photography Exhibition to be held, hosted and heralded at the homecoming of our home's happy season, Spring.

This will be the key word and theme that you, the photographers are encouraged to focus on - SPRING.

Focus on what was that terrible winter and what will become our beautiful dawning spring.

Entrants can offer as many photos as they like but must pick their best 5 to exhibit in the competition. All exhibits will initially be confidential for the purposes of unbiased judging.

At a location which will be kept secret for the time being, all photos will be properly hung and on full view for a full two weeks to showcase our talents and photographic prowess.

I will take the time to contact local media networks and hopefully our entrants’ pieces will make their ways to the news of the Chun.

There will be consolation prizes and a grand prize of considerable value; not to metion the esteemed trophy which is on order from a master craftsman operating out of Romania.

If you are not a photographer but wish to take part in this monumental movement which showcases the human spirit and its’ attempt to capture its’ own self, then become a judge. You will be given that unique and unforeseen privilege of being able to judge art, as an amateur artist or a savant of the refined, but all the more you will be involved. (Odds to be discussed at a more opportune moment).

In association with the Arts & Letters and Dan Gaymer’s Connect, and our fellow Chinese sponsors we encourage you all to sign up and get clicking.

  It’s gonna be epic!

Get clicking. Or contact me if you want to be a judge.

I will pay for the framing and mounting of the photos.

Judges will come and drink Manhattans, Harvey Wallbangers, and Long Island Ice-teas and swoon over the images, captured.

Spectators will embrace and discuss at length the shadowing, lighting, perspective, mise-en-scene, themes, leitmotifs, continuity and overall expressionism of the artists.

To suggest, even for a second that one can compare the majesty of art portrayed on an LCD screen as compared with real life is to suggest that the French have ever put up a good fight. It is utterly preposterous.

The exhibition will be exhibited on plaster walls, and not upon this screen which you look upon now.

Getting photos mounted and framed can be expensive. I propose that the photos be shown here, and the members can then vote. The photos can be uploaded, but no voting until after the cut-off date.
