For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Event Description

This time movie is sponsored by Abdul. He will show us: The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman

Charlie Countryman is a 2013 supernatural romantic thriller directed by Fredrik Bond, written by Matt Drake, and starring Shia LaBeouf, Rupert Grint, Evan Rachel Wood, Mads Mikkelsen and Til Schweiger.

Charlie Countryman is just a normal guy until his mother dies and appears as a spirit, telling him to go to Bucharest, Romania. On the flight there, the passenger next to him dies and also appears as a spirit, telling him to find his daughter. He meets and falls in love with the man's Romanian daughter, Gabi. But Gabi is married to Nigel, a violent and mentally unstable criminal and killer. He befriends two young men in a hostel and falls into trouble with a local crime boss with a strip club and a gang of thugs at his disposal. Armed with little more than his wit, naïve charm, and visions of his mother, Charlie endures one bruising beatdown after another to woo Gabi and keep her out of harm's way. Finally, his exploits of blind valor create such a mess that he's willing to sacrifice everything to save the girl of his dreams.

Because of some technical problems we didn't show the movie last week. We will do it this Wednesday.

Are you talking about Abdel? His name must be the most butchered name in Changchun. I've heard him called Abdul, Habul, Kabul, and even Wizzy! :)
