For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. For those who don't belong to the masses! Only at HAPPY HOME, an Acid Jazz Night! Dance and swing over the notes of the funkiest kind of Jazz ever played by Alex.

Acid Jazz is a musical genre that combines elements of jazz, funk and hip-hop, particularly looped beats. It developed in the UK over the 1980s and 1990s and could be seen as tacking the sound of jazz-funk onto electronic dance: jazz-funk musicians such as Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd and Grant Green are often credited as forerunners of acid jazz. Acid jazz has also experienced minor influences from soul, house, and disco.

One of the greatest band ever in Acid Jazz are surely the US3.

So...see you tonight!

Finally have a little bit of time to thank Jeff and Dann for their interesting performance at the last Jazz night. Thank you guys! We gotta do more together...in the name of Art and Jazz!

And I posted some photos of the show in the PHOTOS section.

The Jazz Night will take a two weeks break, across the October National Holiday. We will come back on October 12th, with another great gig from the wonderful CHANGCHUN SHAKERS JAZZ BAND!

STAY TUNED AND ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY!

Fin, sorry, you have missed THE jazz night with THE live band. That fall once a month. This was a different kind of show. This is THE advert: The Jazz Night will be hosting a very special event, where Music, Visual and Tales will merge and become one. The show will be called "All Roads Lead to Changchun", by Dann Gaymer and Jeff Walsh. It will be an evening of Jazz....Art....Stories, readings and assorted antidotes. Fin You might need to become member of this gruop to get THE news about THE NeXT live concert. Hope to see you there again.

I was disappointed by this last jazz night.  We came expecting some live music, and I think the advertising sort of set us up for this expectation.

Guys and Gals, this Wednesday Mr. Alex, your favourite Jazz music selector, will pay a specia tribute to Nicola Conte, one of the most talented contemporary Jazz man (www.nicolaconte.it). In detail, his way of feeling jazz is strictly bound to the music of the late Fifties/early Sixties, music of different origins, such as for example all those Brazilian trios and quartets that, mainly from the rhythmic and melodic point of view, had a unique freshness, even if at the end of the day it was all based on very simple melodies, like blues.

Again...a night only for those who are different from the rest...who don't belong to the masses.

Another night of good and honest Jazz in Changchun city. The CHANGCHUN SHAKERS did a good job, the crowd was in tune with band and that little shower outside made everything mellow. Good cocktails and nice chatting. Everything, under the moon of Jazz!
