For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. Event Description

That time of the year is almost here, so get ready for the Changchun’s most famous Thanksgiving dinner at Grandpa’s.  This dinner has become a tradition and will be the fifth Thanksgiving dinner I cooked for the gang from Changchun Friends and as in the past, this will be the very best Thanksgiving dinner.

The dinner will use the finest and freshest ingredients available including Turkeys imported from Iowa, USA. Everything will be made from scratch, even  the breads and pies.  Many of the recipes come from my own family's kitchen and will be cooked by me to ensure the most delicious down home Thanksgiving dinner in all of China.

Since Thanksgiving is a family holiday and many here are without family, this is the best time to join our Changchun family and enjoy an authentic Thanksgivings dinner.  It goes without saying, the most important ingredient in any Thanksgiving dinner is the company and the friends.

Here are some details of the menu.  This menu worked well in the past, but there may be small changes. There will be table service at the beginning of the meal, with buffet for additional helpings.  Wine and Cocktails will start at 6:00 pm and Dinner will be served at 7:30 pm

The cost of the dinner is now 188元. The price increase over last year is because of the increasing price for both the turkey and beef.  Derek apologizes for the increase in price.  Tickets will be available starting November 4.

A glass of red wine to start the meal

I want to thank everyone who attended Thanksgiving dinner at Grandpa's.  It always a big task and a lot of work to get this event completed, but its worth it.  Cooking for so many people is a big accomplishment for me. This year we had 45 people sharing a laugh and eating together. I enjoyed meeting and chatting with everyone, especially meeting with the people who were new to Changchun.  It was great to have a Changchun Thanksgiving together.

Thanks Chris for your wonderful comment, helping people is what this holiday is all about and is a big part of my life in Changchun.

David,

Thank you for a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you for allowing me to help you, even if it was just peeling oranges for the cranberry sauce. Being a part of this event helped me to find a little peace. I just found out that my stepmother had had a heart attack, and needs quadruple bypass surgery, and she is also suffering from advanced COPD. She is only 78.

Being able to help you make this event a success showed me that I also have a family here, in Changchun. A family which is caring, and loving (in its own way). A family that sticks together and supports one another.

It's people like you, Derek, Brooke, Richard Roman, Steve Mellow (although he's no longer here), Ward, Wim, Martin Hendricks, Michel, and too many others to mention, that make this a community. A community of people from all walks of life and different nationalities, who support each other and look out for each other.

This is what we should all be giving thanks for on this day. I didn't get the chance to say this tonight, so I am saying it here; and I want to say thank you, to all members of Changchun Friends, for making this the community it is.
