For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

In the first epistle to Timothy in the New Testament, St. Paul wrote that the love of money is the "root of all evil". Does this statement have any truth to it? Judge for yourself as Garret, John, and Jack line up against Richard, Fin, and Ward in an attempt to put this this old saw to rest for good. Come, vote, and put in your own two-cents worth.
Here is the actual quote:
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Richard, I'll take a swing at the three functions. 1. Money is a basic medium for simplifying the exchange of labor and goods. 2. Money is an abstraction, allowing materials to be quantified and compared. 3. Money functions to allocate and preserve status and power at individual, class, and national levels.

Money actually has three functions. Anyone care to name them?
Economists should not reply!
This is the crux of the problem, Richard. I think we have to regard the statement as a metaphor. Otherwise, it doesn't really mean much. The question is--is it meant as a metaphor?
My first question is:
What is money and what does it do?
Why not wine, cheese and debating - all together!
I shall put in my own two cents, but reluctantly, as i do love my money. tihitihi. Maybe we should invite some special guests, as we dont want to bummal this up.
I like the beer idea. We had wine at WLC before. I was quite tipsy by the end of the debate, anyway.
Let's fun some fun and make it a "beer debate". Everytime a person makes a point, then they have to drink a shot of beer.
