For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Event Description

Vinz will give us a talk on his hometown in Normandy, France

Founded in the eleventh century, the earliest records (1080–1082) include the name Sancte Marie Ecclesia, Latin for "Church of St. Mary", while a later document written in Norman-French (1317) mentions Saincte Mariglise. The current French form of the name is ambiguous, with the additional meaning, "Holy Mother Church". The town was significantly involved in the Hundred Years' War as well as the Wars of Religion.

Fantastic talk Vinz. Really educational and I did not realise just how important your town was to the whole D-day Overlord operation.

Fascinating.Thanks for sharing

yes sir Richard! The establishment of the village also is a lot older than what your sources state since we have a roman milestone right in the middle of the village.

Nice introduction Richard. Nevertheless, what made my home town world famous doesn't find its roots in the medieval times but in an event a lot closer to us.
