For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

I'm not going NOT because I'm sceptical or "hiding", as you put it, but because I won't be in Changchun at that time. Unfortunately, I haven't quite mastered the "being in two places at the same time" trick ;)

Music should be able to be appreciated by all, not just those with fat wallets and more money than they know what to do with. If I were to come and bring 30 of my students, would we be able to sit there, not order anything, and just enjoy the music? I somehow doubt it.

"This event is to give these musicians the recognition they deserve by an audience who know how to recognize talent where it is. "

Please inform us as to the number of recording contracts signed by these musicians, from audience members who know how to recognize talent.

Will Dann Gaymer be playing his alternative music? How about Bluegrass? Pop? Rockabilly?

Nothing against you Vinz, it's JMHO, but I don't think Z-Space is an appropriate venue for an event of this type. You need a large open auditorium or theatre-type setting for something of this magnitude. A restaurant that caters to the rich and elite doesn't cut it. It doesn't allow the full scope of talent that is out there.

Dear Chris,

Since you seem to be skeptical (even though you already clearly stated that you were not coming), let me explain the origin of this gig.

As you might know, Miko went back to Denmark last summer and I replaced him as a guitar player/singer in Z-space. While working there, I met incredible musicians (like the three already mentioned) who where not, according to me, properly listened to.

As you said, Z-space is usually a dining place. People go there for the great food and wine. They benefit from great music while dining that only few customers know how to enjoy.

This event is to give these musicians the recognition they deserve by an audience who know how to recognize talent where it is.

FYI, there will be at least 8 performers, playing very different styles.

Instead of hiding behind your "not attending" status, why don't you just come and enjoy the show?

Prices? The event will be free of course!

When you only have one style of music, so you don't "upset the diners", the prices don't matter. It still isn't "The Sound of Changchun".

The Sound of Changchun is supposed to highlight the versatile melodies of expat and Chinese musicians in Changchun. Two classical pianists and one classical violinist do not The Sound of Changchun make.

Sorry Vinz, but IMHO, Z-Apace is not the right venue for an event as large as this one.

The Sound of Changchun is supposed to showcase the musical talents of both expat and Chinese musicians. All talents, not just a select few.

What kind of prices are we looking at?
Comment by Vinz on September 26, 2013 at 20:26

Come and discover three of the most talented chinese musicians of Changchun! 2 pianists (Carol Wang and Zhao Lian) and one violinist (Lijian from Jilin province orchestra) will take your breath away.

Hope to see you on the 25th AND the 26th of october
