For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.
Two new restaurants in Changchun, does anyone know where they are?
Robot Waiters Serving Changchun's Restaurant
Two robots are serving dishes in a restaurant in Changchun city, capital of northeast China's Jilin province. The restaurant owner spent 16,000 yuan (about 2,600 US dollars) to buy the two robot waiters.
The robots can work from 9 am to 10 pm without any supervision, from serving the tables to taking the plates.

'Silent' Restaurant Wins Consumers' Heart in NE China
A 'silent' restaurant has received rave reviews from diners for its service in Changchun in Northeast China' Jilin province. It's described as a "silent" restaurant because all the waiters and waitresses there are hearing impaired or mute, reports the New Cultural Newspaper on Monday.
The restaurant appears similar to other hotpot restaurants at first sight. Upon entering, however, patrons will notice that the waiters and waitresses working there use body language and sign language to communicate with consumers.
When ordering dishes, the consumers can tick off the items on the list. If they need service, they simply press the bell at the table and waiters soon arrive to help. And 12 pictures with sign language are set at each table to indicate what the consumers want, like more water, an extra serving of soup, beer and so on.
