For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

Shengli Park, Changchun - near the railway station

Renmin Dajie, Kuancheng District, Changchun 130052, China.

This is really a very beautiful park and I will visit this again and again.

The main entrance is no more - it has been selected as one of the new station sites for the upcoming underground train system. So you have to find another way in - I was in a taxi and he drove up the left side of the park and we came in through another big entrance.

It has it's usual, badly in need of repair children's funfair area which was all but closed which was a blessing as I was with my 2 year old son Thomas and my wife Mary, but apart from that it has so much to offer the park lovers of Changchun.

Fairly big in size, it consists of a large area with two lakes dominating the central area.

Beautiful, trees and bushes everywhere, along the shaded little paths. There are many places to sit especially along the lakes.

When I was there it was not over busy and I enjoyed all the activities that were going on - dancing, singing, haunting music, outdoor table tennis and the big outdoor exercising areas fully utilised by the older generation of what looked like super Chinese grannies and grandpas. Pluspedalos for hire - Mary's not much into pedalling and when we hire one we end up going around in a circle - so this this we stayed on land.

Thomas enjoyed the park too, especially the miniature steam engine that he could sit in the engine compartment and pretend to drive it around the track - 2 circuits for 10 yuan for each person whether you are an adult or a child.

There is no charge to get in and there are at least 4 public toilets that are in a good, clean condition. Just the usual Chinese snacks and drinks so as always, I recommend to bring your own.

Prices here in China never make much sense as the zoo or the sculpture park only cost 30 yuan and you get so much. So individual quick rides seem so expensive.

All in all I just loved the tranquility of this park and would recommend it to anyone who loves spending a quiet time in a beautiful city park.
