For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

The Sound of Changchun is the brainchild of Alessandro "Alex" Antonicelli when he bellowed a call for local talents to come together for a project. His call was enthusiastically answered by a handful of local college teachers-cum-amateur musicians and had their first eyeball on October, 2009. This call was the simple action that dug deep the foundation in which The Sound of Changchun was built on and continues to grow. The Sound of Changchun is a collective effort of individuals and bands. Since its inception, the project has attracted countless talents from both the international and local music scenes. The French duo, Jean-Guy Poirier and Orianne Witkowski, who headlined the first ever Sound of Changchun, were lauded by the local community for their stylish repertoire. The local industrial metal band, Samans bridged a gap between the foreign and local musicians.

As an original subset of the local social network, ChangchunFriends, The Sound of Changchun has access to local and expatriate talents, and venues. Events ranging from homely coffee shops to wide, open parks have been the stages for the participants of the projects. Musical varieties from classical to heavy metal resounded the presence of The Sound of Changchun.

Dear friends,

The foreign languages department  of gong da (University of Technology in jing yue) has a beautiful project of putting together as many different languages as possible "for a one night only concert" on Friday November 25th.

They asked the sound of changchun to take care of the complete line up!

As the concert is based on the concept of interculturality, the performers would perform songs (with lyrics) in at least two different languages, more if possible! The more, the merrier!

Please let me know asap if you are interested in taking part so we can give an answer to them.

I believe this project is a unique chance to meet and confront our languages and styles! So let's grab it!

Another good event from the Sound of Changchun, together with our Chinese friends of the Guitar Club...and a we are super glad and happy to celebrate the return of our friend, Dan Brownie, who was part of the VERY FIRST Sound of Changchun show and he is also part of the FANTASTIC DUO who create the best song and video ever since foreigners ever landed in Changchun: RIDING ON THE TRAIN! Yes, the guy is back in Town!

Alex, please play Miles Davis - Time After Time from "Around the World"... you might wanna play it during the set break because it's about 20 minutes long!

Or anything from Manhattan Transfer or Pat Metheny!
