For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

The Viking Appreciation Society

Information

The Viking Appreciation Society

The Viking Appreciation Group.

In the old days, there lived a people in the north of the world. They were the Norsemen. Some were traders, some were farmers and fishermen. Some were Vikings. These few Norsemen braved the cold water of the North and traveled to foreign shores to seek treasure and wealth. They did not believe in the Christ. They believed in Odin and Thor. They used Odin’s ravens to help them navigate and they struck with great strength like the hammer of Thor.

The Vikings instantly struck fear into the heart of the Christian north as they did not hesitate to attack the rich towns and monasteries of England.

The Viking long boat enabled the Vikings to raid as far as the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. The stories and the legends of the Vikings have inspired many stories, songs and movies. The Norsemen settled Iceland, Greenland and created settlements in Vinland in North America. The Norsemen would later become the kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden and influence the history of Northern Europe.

This group is to tell the legends and stories of the Norse People when great navigators sailed the sea and great warriors carved their name into the stones of history.

All are welcome.

Hi everyone.

I just saw that History Channel has renewed Vikings for a second season, so we can all look forward to 2014, when Ragnar Lothbrok returns.

kinda sounds like the islams a little! belief in one self and doing good for thine family should have been the motivation for battle to save your poor souls from demise!

Some more info about these fearless norse forefathers of ours...

The reason they were so brave and fearless warriors, was that they believed, that if they died bravely in battle, they would go to the "viking heaven" called Valhalla. Here you would spend eternity drinking, feasting, whoring and fighting with the gods and all the other vikings that had died gloriously on the battlefield...
This is why the vikings would fight so brave and fearlessly.
Because they, in sharp contrast to the Christians, believed, that a life of brave battle and plundering in the name of the gods, would eventually be rewarded with a place in Valhalla and not eternal damnation...

And @:Jack:
The next raid will be monday when the Dongbei resident danes raid Beijing for Danish rock and danish beer.
Epic times in sight... hard to starboard men!!!

Dear members.

I would like to add a comment about the last episode of the Vikings series.

I'm sorry about if I will spoil the theme of the episode, but is about the religion or belief of the vikings.

And here it is important to remember that the group of people known as vikings, were a very small group of raiders within the peoples of Northern Europe cirka AD 700-800. It was a verb; to go viking and it referred a specific group of raiders that would raid anywhere, not only Britain, but also locally, if it was more favorable.

I remembered something from my early childhood in school about a man that was found in a bog and I have found the museum website dedicated to "The Tollund Man". There are some interesting theories about how he came to be in the bog with a robe around his neck.

Have a read about one of the most well preserved humans from +2000 years ago.

The Tollund Man - english

This should open the english site. Otherwise top right corner...

Enjoy the read.
