For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Developments in security technology in China have swiped gravy from the tables of manhole-cover stealers.  Along with gas mains, water purity and levels, and the heating systems, the covers in main thoroughfares now trigger alarms in security centers.  Satellite monitoring systems do map imaging, vehicle tracking, equipment monitoring, and a host of other functions.  In today’s digital age, supplementing one’s income through thievery, as an incident at a local language-oriented business underscores, is increasingly becoming hazardous.

Here's a bit of Changchun trivia for you: Hongqi Street (红旗街)one of the three main hubs of Changchun, featuring Ou Ya shopping center, tram car number 54 and running in the shadow of the Jilin TV tower, took on its current name "Red Flag Street" in 1951, after the founding of the People's Republic of China.  The street, built in 1933 by the Japanese, was previously known as Hong Xi Street (洪熙街) signifying prosperity and opulence.

This National Day, bring friends, family members, or just yourself to Children's Park just off Renmin Dajie and Jiefang Lu for a look at ten thousand pots of blooming Chrysanthemums.  It is said that the crown jewel of the park is the rose garden, at the corner of the park, brimming with thirty-thousand roses.  The show will last through the tenth of October.  春市儿童公园地处长春市市中心,毗邻人民大街.

Andrew Young committed a Truly Unselfish Act last wednesday, a first for the local entrepreneur.  It has been learned that the Act took place near the intersection of Guilin and Tongzhi when the previously completely selfish Mr. Young gave up a taxi to an expectant mother on the way to the hospital.  "I am beginning to understand why people bother with this stuff," Young reported.  "I felt all soft and fuzzy after."  Sources say Mr. Young was revived from a 100-year cryogenic preservation in August of 2003.

Amid much fanfare, the movie China 1911 premiered in Changchun this week at the Grand Oriental Theatre.  The event saw the attendance of Jackie Chan, director Zhang Li, Winston Chao, and others.  The star-studded film (70-some leading actors make appearances) covers a wide swath of Chinese history and commemorates the 1911 Revolution.  It is now showing in Changchun and around China.
