For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

A bit of history for those who are interested

When I lived in London (pre-internet days!) I was invited to join a Chinese dinner club by a friend from Shanghai. You were allowed to bring one guest who was immediately invited to join the group. Great fun. I met a lot of interesting characters and discovered the Chinese restaurants in London

Fast forward a few years and when I was in Singapore we used to organise monthly dinners - french, Indonesian, Italian, Egyptian - again great fun with up to 50 people coming along

Now we are in the Chun - lets do the same!

All ideas welcome!

Our next event will be at a Japanese restaurant - we choose the menu and then it is as much as you can eat and drink for somewhere around 100 RMB - fabulous food and warm saki and cold beer!

The restaurant is on baihui street close to Renmin Dajie

Colby had his leaving dinner here and it was fantastic

Probably hold it in February after the Chinese New year - will set up the event when we have an agreed price, menu and date!

However

Man, if I could be there, I'll be so there. I've only had Mongolian on Gongnong Dalu. It was succulent. I'm not sure if we had to wait a little longer than normal or I was overanxious, but it was worth the wait.

Hulan, do you know this place and how authentic is it

Yeah. Absolutely. So the dinner will start with this CEREMONY of Whole goat. It is really interesting for people that hasn't seen it. So depends on the people we can get 1 or 2 whole roast lamb. There will side dishes. Also very delicious!!! Will post more later.

The first ever Dinner Club meeting will be to taste the roast lamb of Mongolia
A whole lamb is cooked on a spit and brought to the table - delicious!
More details will follow in the next few days but we are hoping that Hulan will be able to give us an introduction to mongolian food and etiquette!
Price to be arranged depending on numbers who want to come

This is a book in advance event and the seating will be limited to 18-20 people. Book in advance to make sure you get a seat
For anyone new here who wants to explore Changchun this is a must go to restaurant - particularly in winter!
