For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

A bit of history for those who are interested

When I lived in London (pre-internet days!) I was invited to join a Chinese dinner club by a friend from Shanghai. You were allowed to bring one guest who was immediately invited to join the group. Great fun. I met a lot of interesting characters and discovered the Chinese restaurants in London

Fast forward a few years and when I was in Singapore we used to organise monthly dinners - french, Indonesian, Italian, Egyptian - again great fun with up to 50 people coming along

Now we are in the Chun - lets do the same!

All ideas welcome!

Has anyone ever seen Marmite in Changchun or does anyone know an easy way of getting some? Love that stuff!

The restaurant I know is on Qing hua Lu Yu Feng shun Jie jiao hui.
I don't know the name but when you get there, I remember a big sign with a 3 digit number outside ( on your left). The stairs lead you upstairs and then it's totally Japanese. They have a menu but the buffet for all you can eat priced at around 125 RMB per person is great because you just order off the menu! Free budweiser beer or sake.

I love Japanese and was planning a business dinner later this weekend at the big restaurant on Jian Zheng Lu off of Tong Zhi Jie.  Is this the same one?

As for other alternatives, I have found a secret well appointed japanese restaurant. REALLY good!
