For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

FLTRP Cup Speech Contest at Northeast Normal University

Jilin Normal University in Siping was founded n 1958. For the first time in the history of Jilin Normal University- a JLNU speech contestant advanced to the final round of the national speech
competition. The English Speaking Contest is an annual event hosted by Foreign Languages
Press (FLTRP....formerly hosted by CCTV).

The best students from universities, colleges, vo-techs and service academies all took part in the semi-final competition in Jilin Province. This year's semi-finals were held at the Arts and Humanities College of Northeast Normal University in Changchun on Sunday November 17th. .Local competitions and the semi-finals are held at the provincial level all around China during the fall;


The first round featured a prepared three minute speech. This year's topic is "When Socrates Meets Confucius". The contestants had to come up with their own subtopics. The second round was a 2 minute impromptu topic followed up by a question from the question master and two minute response. The panel of judges featured 6 Chinese judges and 2 international judges. The question master was from the United States.

Ms. Susan Li (pictured second from the right*) is one of three students who won the right to compete in the finals in Beijing in next month. There were a total of 55 speech contestants in the semii-finals.
