BBC Strikes China Content Deal
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has licensed 65 hours of TV shows to Chinese state TV broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV).
The deal was announced Wednesday at the third annual BBC Worldwide China Showcase, a sales and pitching event held in Beijing.
Factual programs, in particular natural history shows, made up most of the package. Titles concerned included “Attenborough’s Ark,” (pictured) “Jaguars – Born Free,” “Penguins – Spy in the Huddle” and “Giant Otters of the Amazon.”
“In the years that we’ve worked together, we’ve seen an interest of documentary increase among our Chinese viewers,” said Liu Wen, managing director, CCTV Documentary Channel.
In April the BBC and CCTV9 signed a co-production agreement for “Hidden Kingdoms,” a series that features the natural world’s most fascinating small creatures. The 2D and 3D versions of the series are due to be delivered by mid-2014.
