For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

Well, this is pretty neat - Changchun College has built a replica of Columbia’s Law Library!

“The seven-floor, 20,000-square-meter library was completed this April and designed to be a “larger version of Columbia University’s library,” according to the City Evening News, a local newspaper covering Jilin province.”

I wonder if comes with bad blueberry coffee and bedbugs, too?

To make another correction, its called the Low Library building of Columbia University not the Law Library building.  It was named after Seth Low who was a mayor of the City of New York at the turn of the century (1901).  It is a quality building built in the old style when they used alot of masonry and Italian marble and has the largest free-standing dome in the United States.  The building and campus was designed by the most famous architects at that time, McKim, Mead and White. The steps of the library building are a meeting and gathering place for Columbia students.

Wow! This is truly amazing. I will certainly arrange a trip there.

But there is so much happening in Changchun from the subway to new museums and new sports stadiums, all sorts of new centres and facilities. We really need a place to collate all this and tell our community - any ideas? Most of the Chinese I know are unaware of most of it and I find it by accident - but hey a building like this library is hard to miss but we did.
