For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il dies aged 69 after heart attack

Kim's death was announced on Monday by the state television from the North Korean capital, Pyongyang.

Kim is believed to have suffered a stroke in 2008 but he had appeared relatively vigorous in photos and video from recent trips to China and Russia and in numerous trips around the country carefully documented by state media. The communist country's "Dear Leader" - reputed to have had a taste for cigars, cognac and gourmet cuisine - was believed to have had diabetes and heart disease.

I only know what the media tell us and yes, we should be very wary of this guy. He is an unknown quantity really. As to what his future plans maybe, I just hope he has a better grasp of what the world is up to than "special-k". Here's HOPING!

One thing to Remember about "baby-K", Richard. He's only been dressing for the role for three years. His daddy, "Special-K", did that for 14 years before sitting in the big chair. Baby-K ain't ready to use the soup-spoon yet. He's still got the teaspoon in his mouth. Of course, his BMI looks like he may be using a shovel!!

The coming months will herald a new era for Asia as Chris rightly pointed out. "baby-k" will in my opinion start a fresh campaign with its brother, but who knows what that could be. Tense times!

I don't think we have to worry too much about baby-K. He's still trying to roll his fat keister off the sofa. I would be more worried about the internal power struggles which usually follow an event such as this. Like horses at the race track, there's gonna be some jockeying goin' on.

South Korea must be ok. I dont think K-J-UN, will take position imediatly on the conflict. But what is sure, is that today,  all the government of each countrys are very busy. Crisis meeting guys!!!!!!

Lets not talk about Chinese politics openly here. Agreed, the alliance that once was could be rekindled and that could have some very serious consequences. ultimately I pray that my friends and their families in South Korea will be safe.

Actually, Richard, since the Korean War is technically still not over, and China is/was the DPRK's ally, I fear that China may get drawn back into any future conflicts. China is an important part of this whole equation. I hope that Beijing will stay neutral and let the two Korea's solve their differences, however, no matter how you look at it, the next few weeks/months are going to be very important, historically, for Asia.
