For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

I was at Grandpas last night, having my usual drink " Brandy and water" and having a few smokes. We had a great time chatting and laughing with good friends.

later on on the evening the place started to get smoky from everyone smoking and I haven't really notice that someone was coughing.

Long story short when I went to pay my bill I notice young Derek was coughing a lot and I ask him if he was sick ? He replied no it was the smoke that was affecting him.

AT that moment it occurred to me all this time he and other people were inhaling our second hand smoke. He said to me "MEISHEI" MEISHEI"  No problem, No problem.

I went home feeling guilty and sad for not considering other people health.

Please  SMOKERS from TODAY on, Please go OUTSIDE  to SMOKE  in respect to all NON SMOKERS.

I  want to say SORRY  to EVERYONE  for not respecting your right to enjoy a SMOKE FREE environment.

"Habit is stronger than reason." - George Sanayana

I hardly quote other people, but I think this one fits.

"I'll smoke, I'll cough, I'll get the tumors, I'll die, deal? Thank you America"

Bill Hicks died in the early 90's, a time when discussion about health related problems associated with smoking and personal choice were at an all time high. Forget second hand smoke issues, proper cancer research (which was only done by tobacco companies) and ability to sue the bastards. This was all before the 'great awareness' we have come to understand today.
He passed away at the tender age of 32; Would he be alive today, what would he say? I think he would be grateful to be alive by giving up drinking and smoking, instead of just drinking. Imagine this great comic genius being able to entertain us/educate us for decades more instead of being cut down in the middle of his life. Hey, but maybe his cancer wasn't smoking related, what do I know!?

Tonight I am going to play poker. Many people there will light up and I won't complain. It is not my place to criticize people while frequenting locations where I know there will be a lot of smoke. I am happy to express my opinion here, though, and appreciate yours.

Bill Hicks is just so awesome isn't he? "I'm a heavy smoker. I go through two lighters a day."

More from the Legendary Bill Hicks (edited for profanity):

'See, I know you entertain some kind of eternal life fantasy because you've chosen not to smoke; let me be the first to pop that (darned) bubble and send you hurtling back to reality – because you're dead too. And you know what doctors say: "(cripes), if only you'd smoked, we'd have the technology to help you. It's you people dying from nothing who are (in trouble)." I got lots of stuff waiting for me: oxygen tent, iron lung, electronic voice box; it's like going to Sharper Image when I die'

 Non-smokers die, every single day!

My dear old mother didn't smoke a day in her life. She ate fresh fruit and vegetables like they were about to be rationed. She exercised and drank very moderately. Dead at 60, of breast cancer.

Jack - an Havanna cigar for the poker - perfect!

Gemma - my father made a list of reasons to give up cigarettes and a list of reasons not to. On balance he decided to take up a pipe!

Someone asked if there are any benefits to smoking, and there is one! It aids digestion. I'm an IBS sufferer and when i have given up in the past it has got really bad. smoking regulates your intetines if you are prone to spasms. but balance wise, that dosen't really make up for it! not even close. That said. I'm smoking a chang right this second.
