For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

So, I get into the taxi and it has a big NO SMOKING sign. two minutes into the journey and the driver offers me a cigarette as he lights up . I accept of course! I point to the sign and give him an inquisitive look. He smiles and shrugs

Alright so two years ago Cody and I are leaving a friends apartment and we had been drinking for a while and let's say we had a "thick buzz" goin on. The driver picked up on this quickly and started talking to us asking how much we drank and whatnot. Then this guy started grinning and flipped down the front visor Tv which was playing a "blue" movie. This driver was so proud of himself, it was hilarious. Once we had reached our apartment the drive gave us his business card and told us to call him any time we wanted.

My first experience with Chinese taxi drivers was the night I arrived in Beijing from Vancouver. It was a 12-hour flight and I NEEDED A CIGARETTE!!!!! I still had some time before I caught my connecting flight to Hangzhou, so I quickly popped outside for a smoke. It seemed like there was 1.3 billion taxi drivers in China, and they were all at the airport. I felt like I was being flash-mobbed as they ran towards me shouting, "Welcome to China ... You need taxi? ... Where you go? Where you go?" I was cowering in the corner by the ashtray, going, "All I want is a cigarette ..."

Anybody needs a taxi to or from the airport can call Mr. Wu (13634303314). Pretty good English (if your brain can slow it down). He talks very fast !!! I don't know who said he had "fluent" English in the old forum, but maybe they meant "fluid" English. It's as fast as the water going over Niagara Falls!! He uses the meter, which is a big plus. Best to give him a call the day before you plan to arrive or leave, and make an appointment with him.

I am moving house and the taxi I am in is following the pick up van with all my stuff in it. A car swerves in front of us and then abruptly stops. my taxi driver goes livid and at the next set of traffic lights which are red he jumps out, opens the door of the other car (another taxi) and they start to have a fight. the lights turn to green. My taxi driver jumps back into the car and we are on our way again!
