For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

I always thought that this beautiful land had some of the toughest internet security on the planet! After reading this article I find myself believing that actually, all this security draws too much attention from the wrong kind of internet wizards.

China becomes top victim of cyber attacks

China has become the world's top victim of cyber attacks as 10,593 Chinese websites were controlled by 11,851 overseas Internet Protocol addresses (IPs), a network security report revealed on March 19, 2012.

About 47,000 overseas IPs were involved in attacks against 8.9 million Chinese computers last year, according to the report released by China's primary computer security monitoring network, the National Computer Network Emergency Response Coordination Center of China (CNCERT/CC).

Japan was the source of most attacks (22.8 percent), followed closely by the United States (20.4 percent) and the Republic of Korea (7.1 percent).

Earlier this year, Chinese experts had called for enhanced Internet safety management and new legislation after cyber attacks resulted in the leak of more than 6 million user accounts and passwords on China's largest programmers' website, China Software Developer Network (CSDN).

China has the world's largest Internet population. The number of its Internet users reached 485 million last June. However, a high percentage of that population had experienced cyber attacks.

In the first half of 2011, a total of 217 million Chinese Internet users, or 44.7 percent of the online population at that time, had been attacked by malware, including viruses or Trojan horses, and 121 million had the experience of having their accounts or passwords stolen.

People who believe everything they read are called "conspiracy theorists". I think there is some merit to both sides' allegations, but for China to say it's the most hacked country in the world is stretching it a bit IMO. The United States is not going to tell China about every offshore hacking attempt, and vice versa. Each side can continue, and will continue, to play the blame game. Cyberspace is the new "cold-war playground", so to speak.

Agreed Richard

As you know I am a keen follower of the global warming debate and following from that the investment in new energy sources etc. It is a total scam which goes completely unreported in the main Stream media -  if reported at all is pretty well wrong - greenies with a politial bias

the Guardian and the BBC are the worst

Agreed, but I ask you both, are you so ready to believe completely in our sources of information. "do you believe everything you read."
I see more and more state propaganda in english these days. nevertheless, it is funny since "loosing face" is always top of the agenda!?

Like Chris, I am not sure of the veracity of this report!

Due to the allegations of computer hacking given by the United States against China, in the past year or so, I find this article a little suspect.
