For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

I know i should not think like that, i just want to abreact my mood. people are living in the same world, but they undergo different experiences in this unequal society.

I used to devote myself to prepare the TOEFL and SAT exams, sacrificed my break time to memorize the vocabulary. And then i applied to New York University, but they refused  me.

Today, a girl ,i met several years ago, called me and tell me that she will go to NYU this September. But she told me she only got 5 in IELTS. She told me that she found a boyfriend who helped her to go to that university without the language score and anything else, even no visa.

Her boyfriend is 30 years old and she is only 18, the same age with me.

WTF ! I don't know how to express my mind.

such an unequal world!

I worked hard to achieve my dream, but i cannot get.

someone can take my dream easily just for finding a thirty years old boyfriend.

I cannot accept this reality at least in my age.

Oh bella, my little one! Life sucks as you say. Look at it this way...you got to UCLA on your own, your hard work, your determination. I respect girls (and guys) like you. The world respects you! Go get them girl!!

yes, my dream school is NYU but I will go to UCLA. I believe a successful girl will be independent and to be succeed by herself. The world is so unfair, but I wanna approve myself that I could get everything I want by myself, not some older boyfriend or some "new money". I think I learn the life class today, it worth.

Do you watch CROSSOVER on CCTV News (9)? Every night they talk about all topics "fair and unfair" in China. Great program.

I find this hard to believe.  I took courses at NYU.  Its not the way things usually work at NYU.  No 30 y.o. guy can just get someone admitted who also has low qualifications, no TOEFL and SAT exams or US Visa.  These are all difficult to obtain.

NYU may not be the most highly ranked school, but it still has a good reputation and NYU isnt anywhere desperate enough to accept unqualified students.

Maybe the girl will regret her choice when she starts studying and finds she can't keep up in class because she doesn't have the necessary English level, or when things with her older boyfriend don't work out but she's dependent on him for her visa.

Keep trying, do it the proper way.

The world is like a "bank loan". Banks don't borrow to people who need the money. Banks borrow to people who can prove they 1) can pay the money back and 2) PEOPLE WHO DON'T REALLY NEED THE Money. It's NOT fair. A poor country who REALLY needs the money as deemed a "poor credit risk" and doesn't get any. Ironically the rich countries prove they can pay the money back... borrow lots of money AND THEN DON'T PAY IT BACK. That's not fair either. No easy solutions!
