For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Sorry Ferney, force of habit, it is the localized American spelling and I often forget.

I went both Sunday and Monday, and had a great time both days.  However, I never had any bad experiences with the North Koreans.  As a matter of fact, two of my students were working at their booth this year.  I even pulled one of them aside and asked whether she had told the North Koreans that I am American.  She said yes.

FYI, I scored a carton of North Korean cigarettes, so ask me nicely and I'll give you one.

Today's the last day, so go if you have the chance.

Thailand has a large representation, with small areas for Russia, Mongolia and North Korea.  Largest area for Taiwan businesses and also Hong Kong.  There is booth for South African wines with plentiful samples.  It is crowded but still alot of fun.  Business conferences were a few days ago, sorry I missed them.

Garrett just gave me a North Korean cigarrette, really really surprising.

Ferney not sure what you mean, did you read all the prior posts?  I was speaking about my introduction to the North Korean gentleman as an American, he then walked away.  Maybe if I introduced myself as a Columbian, we would have been great pals.

I bought a bottle of S. African wine, a Canadian gift basket for my colleague--maple syrup and more, and then I bought some Italian pesto & noodles.  You can never have enough pesto...

I will go there tomorrow morning with my friends.

A student of mine handed me a ticket today because he's volunteering. I hope to coordinate my visit with when he's volunteering. :)

2 years ago I was chatting with a gentleman from the booth, he asked my friend where I was from, after my friend told them "America", they frowned and walked away.
