For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.
Hi everyone :) My partner and I are still discussing about moving in Changchun. We have a small kid (14 mnth) and we are concern about air pollution. Those who are living in Changchun for a few years now- how is air pollution thru years? Is it getting worse or is it the same? Do you ever see blue sky and clouds or is the sky always grey / polluted?

The level of pollution is not as high as in most Chinese cities. Changchun has lots of parks including one of the biggest Jinyue Park. Level of pollution varies. For example from 122 in High-Tech zone to 57 in the city and 53 in the forest area. But this figures change so I recommend to follow this page http://aqicn.org/map/china/ for few days and see what's happening. If you zoom in on Changchun you be able to see level of pollution in different areas of the city.
And to answer your question we have here many sunny days and blue sky.
Barbara. there is plenty of blue sky days in Changchun. The worst time of the year for pollution is normally in early autumn when they fire up all the central heating but it is much less polluted than say Beijing and the summers really can be very pleasant
As Murin said there are plenty of parks and in the summer the city becomes very green with all the trees lining the streets. Jingyue Tan at the South East of the city is said to be the world's largest man made park/forest
Changchun is great compared to a lot of cities and i know foreign families that are quite happy here with there children.
Thank you all for answer. We were on pre visit last week, and the air was wery bad for the first two days and we both had some problems, that is why we are concerned. If we decide to move in, we will live in Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone. We are already following website http://aqicn.org/map/china, and now as I can see, the air is ok. To bad that there is no statistic or archive for last few months or year. Otherwise, I enjoyed on pre visit and i like the city :)
If you are on any smart phone, download the app AIR QUALITY CHINA. The truth is that in winter all of the big cities in North East China become extremely polluted due to the heavy usage of coil for sustaining the heating system (starting from Beijing). But, said that, in winter people tends to stay in more because is quite cold outside and it is true that there are lots of opportunities to get fresh air in the parks. With some good habits and a bit of tolerance, there won't be any serious issue.
