For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

I myself, have a 6" Mak-Cass, a Meade 90mm RA, and a set of Meade Series 5000 SWA plossl's.

Interesting, Gordon. Do you have them here, in Changchun?

Thanks for the welcome. I've been interested for many years but got more active while on my last assignment in China. Currently, I have a C5 and a C9.25. Astro tech Voyager and CGEM mounts, respectively. Into astrophotography as well as well.

When you buy the T-ring, you will have to tell the seller what your camera is so he can send you the right one. All cameras have different mounting systems, as you know.

You need to have a T-ring:

You need to have a T-adapter:

If you want to use eyepiece projection for the moon or planets, you will need a tele-extender:

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.10.64.a00eb7&id=626...

The first two items can usually be bought together. They will allow you to couple your camera directly to the telescope, using it like a giant telephoto lens. The third item will allow you to take high-power images of the moon (craters, mountain ranges, etc.) and planets.

What camera have you got?

Welcome to the club, Gordon. Please tell us a bit about your interest in astronomy, and any equipment you may have.

I understand your frustration. There is a company in Guanzhou which has really assisted in blackening the  "Chinese Telescopes" image. I have never had a problem with any of the equipment I have got from Gilman. When you are emailing him, just mention my name.

Cool ! I'm checking the website you told me. Do you recommend these?  Even though everything is manufactured in China, I still feel uncomfortable around Chinese Brands. You reckon I can find them in taobao? 'cause I'm looking for one with a mount for my Nikon D90 camera and probably a motorized tripod. The place I'm telling you is a huge park in Shuangyang, one hour from Changchun and You might need to take your battery pack.

Do you have a vehicle? Does this place have electricity? I'm still waiting for my battery pack. Also, check out this site:

I know Gilman quite well. He is who I purchased my 6" Maksutov from. His company makes quite a few Meade products. The Celestron 130EQ is good as a beginner scope FOR VISUAL WORK. If you are looking to do astrophotography, you will need a bigger mount, and you will be mostly limited to planetary, solar, and lunar photography.
