For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Sorry Richard, Astrology and Astronomy have nothing in common. One is a science, which studies the universe, and one is a pseudoscience, which uses 5000 year-old out-of-date data to foretell the future.

Have no interest in astronomy but that is a cool photo Chris!

How about an Astrology group? Still to do with  stars and all that?

I am Pisces btw

Any place you have an unobstructed view, and preferably, no streetlights. The rooftop of an apartment building would be a good spot Ferney.

I saw that about 2 nights ago. I have to confess that I didn't know they were planets, but never the less, the alignment had me mesmerized for a time...it is actually quite pretty.

A wonderful little trio in the sunset skies this week. Venus, Jupiter, adn the crescent moon make a nice photographic opportunity. The lowest bright "star" is Venus. About a fist width above that is the planet Jupiter. These two planets, coupled with the moon, make a nice little triangle, so get out your camera and tripod. Try exposures ranging from 1/2 second to 3 seconds. Vary your ISO ratings between 100 and 800.

Meanwhile, in the eastern sky around 10 PM, there is a very red planet Mars about halfway between the horizon and straight overhead (the Zenith). Mars is approaching opposition, so will be getting brighter in the weeks ahead.

Why, oh why did it have to be cloudy for last night's lunar eclipse??

This photo of the nearlly full moon was taken on November 7th with my Pentax K-x DSLR and 6-inch (152 mm) Maksutov Cassegrain telescope. The exposure was 1/60th of a second.
