“马后炮”原来是中国象棋里的一个术语，后来引申为事情发生后才采取相应的办法或措施，但是已经没有用了，也不能改变事情的结果。“马后炮”常与“放”连用，也可以说某人或某种行为是“马后炮”。
“马后炮(mǎhòupào)” was originally a term for Chinese chess game. Later, it means to take measures or actions after the event, which is of no use. “马后炮(mǎhòupào)” is usually used after the verb “放(fàng)”. We can also say someone or something is “马后炮(mǎhòupào)”.
