For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.
I cartooned the Mexican painting - wadda ya think?
The original is beautiful though.
Idea from a blog by D.Victor Maneilly on The Mahatma Jack's Bar Group blog.
This cartoon of MJ's has Jack's official blessing.

I like it with color.
It's an Aztec goddess not a Mexican god. She was the Goddess of Alcohol and particularly pulque.
Aztec art usually shows Mayahuel as a young women wearing a blouse and carrying a flowering maguey plant.
According to Aztec myth, Quetzalcoatl and Mayahuel were fleeing tzitzimime (star demons) and tried to disguise themselves as the branches of a tree. Mayahuel was recognized, however, and the tzitzimime tore her to small pieces. Quetzalcoatl buried the pieces which in turn sprouted into the first maguey plants. These are then turned into pulque, an alcoholic drink used by the Aztec in their religious rituals.
Yes I visited the bar and it is the same. He drew it from a photo that Richard put on Changchun Friends.
I like it, it really captures my eyes,
Thank you Emilyn.
i love this!
Thanks Richard I appreciate. My dream - and I still have one - is to do something like that. Remember I only started cartooning last February and I am still learning with each cartoon and I'm adding more detail such as the backgrounds - in this one I drew the Mexican art behind Jack which was fun and in others I drew the big screen or the bricked-up main bar. It's all so much fun to do and a good legacy to leave Changchun.
