For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

Finally made it to Jilin. And my question is ...

We finally, after months of waiting, made it to China. We have been here in Jilin for a week now, shaking off our jet lag, poking around the city of Jilin, enjoying the strangeness of it all.

I have lots of questions that come to mind, so I am sure I will get good use out of this forum to get better information. Speaking of which: Where can I get (preferably in Jilin) an adapter for my Dell laptop (bought in US)? The fellow in the store here (named Da something Guan) sold me a cube-shaped adapter that is good for all sorts of plugs except mine. Walmart didn't have one either.

Looking forward to some good conversation here.

In getting ready for my shopping foray - or wild goose chase - I went to Google, plugged in "WuHua DianNao Cheng" and got a location. Unfortunately the satellite location and the map location differ by a few blocks. However, by splitting the difference I come to the place you mentioned, at the intersection of Jilin Da Lu & Guanghua Jie. So I will start there.

Thanks for the feedback, both of you. I'll check out the store you mentioned, billy.

Hi Tom

Maybe you can get what you need  in the store named WuHua DianNaoCheng in the Jilin ,

The store at the corner of Jilin DA Lu and Guanghua Jie.

but  I'm not sure it open during the lunar New Year holiday.

like Martin says you'd better get some chinese friends help.

Thanks for the feedback and welcome.

@Richard: Maybe I will do just that - when we get back from Harbin. We bought tickets today for tomorrow. I know that sometimes trips need to be booked even further ahead, but we lucked out I guess. At any rate, it was a short walk from our new home just east of the station.

@Martin and Ferney. Now I have another reason to go see Changchun. I really want to get going on my Dell.

Hi Tom - welcome to Donbei!

As most of us on this site are based in Changchun, it would be great if you could set up a group (just go to the groups header at the top of this page and set up a new group relating to Jilin - something like "The Jilin Group". In that group you could post questions/make comments relating directly to Jilin

BTW - you probably know it but Changchun is about 40 minutes by high speed train from Jilin - to buy tickets you have to take your passport to book tickets in advance

I've bought a few for my Dell here in Changchun but they tend to burn out after a while around 6 months - I'm on my third. Just get yourself to a computer mall and look for a DELL sign and usually they can help you - best to take a Chinese person with you - or even better send the Chinese person and that way it will be cheaper. Welcome to NE China -  Xin Nian Kuai Le
