For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

Infographic: China's internet speed by province

The following table is self-explanatory, Jilin province is at the bottom of the sample, hey even Xinjiang is faster than Jilin, at least we beat Inner Mongolia!  According to the article, methodology is uncertain.

David - remember that post you put up about the GDP of each province and how it relates to countries around the world. It would be grate if you could put that up again!

Let see, Internet speed is usually quoted in Megabits per second. 1 byte = 8 bits.

So 2.45mbps for Jilin province =

2.45 * (2^20) = 2,569,011 bits per second

2,569,011 / 8 = 321,126 bytes per second

321,126 / 1024 (1 kilobyte) = 313.6 kbs

The graphic is 244 kbytes

244 / 313.6 = 0.77 seconds

There you have it Ferney, the graphic would take about 3/4 of a second (give or take) in Jilin, your mileage may vary.

According to the graphic, it would take .4 seconds in Shanghai

since the graphic is only 224k, probably less time than it took you to write that comment
