For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

G'day everybody

As we are all quite familiar with the particular music choices of the Chinese in our haunts and taverns, with their unique and sometimes misunderstood style, I would like to start something quite new and unique myself. It involves you - yes you!!!

We need you to help us create a playlist which will feature permanently in Mahatma Jack's Bar.

What do you need to do?

Submit your 5 favourite pieces of music. Just five. Not the bands or the artists, just the songs. For eg. If i were to choose and I bloody well will, it would be:

Mozart, Violin Concerto No 1 & No 3.
Carrickfergus by Louden Wainwright III.
Beds are burning by Midnight Oil.
Land Down Under, by Men at Work.

So whatever you want to hear playing, tell me (you do not need to upload the actual songs up onto CCF), just the titles.

And lets get the first Changchun Playlist rocking!!!

Ok Ok Ok. I will look into it. And as I was reading your first list Vinz i was thinking ... Oh sweet Jesus. But your second list is definately do-able.

Arthur Brown's "Fire"?  I've heard it twice at two different locations over the last six months.

Jack

How about creating a second play list?
I am sure everyone here has more than 5 songs to offer but the idea of limiting people to 5 is a good idea.
I like it and yes You're right!

Very exciting and unusual and interesting and random and wild and cool and (only in my opinion) not so cool choices. Who is Tony Bennet anyway? Sounds like a tree lopper from Darwin. Anyway, seriously, this is a fantastic list and thankyou to everyone who has contributed to it. I'd like to give a big shout out to Chris K, who compiled the music for us. Its playing now and it is a really diverse mix. I like it!

Martin: Absolutely you can put your music up. We want to embrace what the Chun likes.

Ferney: you're spot on.

Burns: Do you like it?

And as I said, keep em coming... There's plenty of room for more.

Mahatma Jack's now has over 500 Mb's of music. Enough for over eight hours of listening pleasure. There is a little something for everyone.
