For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

My wife and I were in Changchun last July to adopt a little girl and bring her to the U.S.  While we were there, we ate at the food court on the 7th floor of the shopping mall across from Walmart & the Shangri-La on Chongqing Road.  We had a stir-fry dish of beef & onions on top of lettuce with a TON of spices.  It was sitting in a bowl that was on top of a little jar of canned heat.  I never had anything like it before or since.  Can anyone PLEASE help?  What was it called?  How can I make something similar in the US?  It has literally been bugging me since we got home about 8 months ago.  Thanks for any help!

I think this sounds Korean. Will check over the weekend

Yes, Ferney is right...one of my favorite too

Thanks so much for your replies - based on the pictures I've seen online, this might be it!  I haven't seen something that looks exactly like it, but it's pretty close!  From what I've read, though, it can take on many different variations of the same theme.

Richard, if you are planning on going there, I remember it was against the back wall, maybe 2-3 booths from the left.  We obviously couldn't communicate with them, so we told them we wanted something spicy by wagging our hands over our tongues.  They understood!

Found a decent picture of the actual dish from our blog posting about the visit.  Don't know if it helps or not!
