For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Event Description

Hello, I will organize with the World Life Club a huge miniature wargame. The thema is the battle of Gravelotte St Privat, one of the biggest battle of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870. The surface area of the game will be 15 sqm and the number of miniatures around 8 000, so the view will be quite spectacular. I will need 11 motivated players, 6 for the German team and 5 for the French team. If you like history and/or strategy game, like chess, please feel free to participate. The game will be organized in November or December and it will be a two-three days event.

Here is the French team for the big battle: Richard Ridealgh as Maréchal Canrobert (the toughest position) and Richard Roman as Général Ladmirault (and may be general in chief), Colby as Général Leboeuf, we need one more player on this team to play Général Frossard,

The German team is: Vincent as Prinz Albrecht von Sachsen (XIIth corps) and Prinz Augustus von Wurttemberg (Guard corps), John as von Manstein (IXth corps) and von Goeben (VIIIth corps) and general in chief, David as von Zastrow (VIIth corps) and von Fransecky (IInd corps). The German team can welcome more players as well.

Enjoyed it very much. I never thought I would be a Frenchman!

I am glad you enjoyed it. Next practice session, I propose to put the troops closer to each other to be able to do more shootings and close combat. I also will let you use the tables to do the calculations by yourself. See you on Sunday!

Practice went well enough. Loved it! The French managed to rock the huge german army. But I suspect its not over yet with more german reinforcements arriving and the french unaware that the germans were coming behind them....great saga, great game. Practice again on Sunday afternoon!

Well, it depends your disponibilities to you all. What about the 6th of November (a Sunday) from 2PM? I will need an answer from all players who are interested. I could organize a mini-game with each of you playing a brigade for example. There is no better way to learn than to play.
