For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Before I die, I want to ...

Ok, Ladies and gentlemen, this is an experiment. I plan to make a giant chalkboard, with the above phrase, "Before I die, I want to ... ", and people have to fill in the blank. I want to try it here first.  So ... fill in the blank ...

"Before I die, I want to __________________________"

Godspeed Scott Carpenter

Scott Carpenter, the second American to orbit the Earth, was guided by two instincts: overcoming fear and quenching his insatiable curiosity. He pioneered his way into the heights of space and the depths of the ocean floor.

Sir Patrick Moore, 1923-2012

http://www.spaceweather.com/

British astronomer and broadcaster Sir Patrick Moore died on Dec. 9, 2012, at the age of 89. Knighted for his dedication to astronomy outreach, the monocled host of BBC's The Sky at Night inspired millions of lay people to look at the sky and a fair number of children to grow up to be professional scientists. RIP to a great astronomer.

I remember watching him on PBS as a kid.

Lest We Forget

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset…

A person in a big country wonders why airplane windows DON'T OPEN !!!

Somewhere, in a big country, located between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, a person wondered, to a bunch of other people, of journalistic persuasion, who had  microphones and notepads, for reporting what may possibly be of journalistic importance to the masses ... "Why is it that you can't roll down the windows on an atmospheric conveyance vehicle?"

edited because one person didn't like the original ...

Actor George Lindsey, known as Goober Pyle, dies

One of his best jokes:

"A football coach, holding a football, asks his quarterback, 'Son, can you pass this?' The player says, 'Coach, I don't even think I can swallow it."'
