For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Welcome aboard, Matt. Yes there are a lot of expats here the 'chun. Some are teachers, some are students, some are business people. All have their own uniqueness that they bring with them.

I've been here in the 'chun for 4 years, now, and yes, there is an abundance of nightlife here.
Hi Matt and welcome to the Chun 9soon:)
Hey i also got offered a job with English First, is this company ok in Changchun?
I think EF is ok - but I will let some more seasoned professionals talk!
Expat! A hi from an aborigine. Huhuh!
Welcome to Wonder-chun-land where vehicles can fly.
We've got a considerable number of bars here.
And around 10000 other 'expats', half of whom are English-speakers.
Taking them out whilst work is likely to be the only solution if you are not hired by a hairdressing school.
As to the wearing them off work, it won't help you to get more attention from ladies, nor will it make you in trouble with cops. Just wear them and enjoy.

Hi guys,
I am also coming to Changchun in August to start work as an ESL Teacher.
I was wondering if you could give me any ideas as to how piercings are perceived in China, I have read that it is not something that is common. I have spider bites (two lip piercings at one side of my lip), my eyebrow, both my ears and a scaffold. I am of course expecting to have to wear retainers/take them out whilst working but wondered what reactions would be like outside of work.
Thanks
