For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

Changchun Friends

a great way to get involved

So, I've been playing with the rice cooker recently, and I've found that it's good for a lot more than just rice. I'll be posting some of the successful things that I've managed to pull off.

Ginger Honey Garlic Chicken Wings

A super easy way to get those sticky wings that are great to munch on while watching your fave sporting event.

Ingredients:

A bag of frozen wings (available at just about every supermarket, 1 kg size costs aboot 40 RMB)

Fresh ginger

Garlic

Honey

Soy Sauce

Directions: Thaw wings under cool running water. Lightly fry them in a little oil (less than 5 mins) so they are not pink on the outside anymore.

Chop ginger and garlic. How much? How much do you want? At least a tablespoon of each, but I like more.

In a bowl, mix 3/4 cup of each: honey, soy sauce. Toss in the chopped garlic and ginger and mix it all together.

(If you like a bit of kick to it, you can add some chili powder or black pepper)

Throw the wings in the cooker and pour the mixture over it. Stir it well so that all the wings are coated.

Turn on the cooker, and after about 90 minutes, your wings will be ready!

Tasty on their own, or nice served over white rice, with the extra sauce poured over
