For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

7 deadly perceptions of doing business in China.

Hopefully, with the help of our good friends over on CCL, I will publishing an article called "Do I have to drink Baijiu to do business in China." I wrote most of it under the heavy influence of Baijiu so I hope you enjoy it.

After I wrote my article, I decided to have a look on the web and see what was out there about business and etiquette in doing business and found this article. I really liked it and I think that it's very close to what is going on here today in… Continue

Onomatopoeia

I was working with my students on the sounds animals make and came up with this list. I know there are more, so add to it if you can.

Ta.

Horse - ney
Donkey - eeeoh
Snake - hiss
Pig - oink oink
Dog - woof
Cat - meow
Owl - hoot - my favourite.

Go on, add some more.

You Stole My Tractor !!!

Ok Boys and girls, we are doing well. But we are not doing half as much as we should. Where are the representatives of the Middle East, where are the nomads of the Mongolian steppe, where are our dear friends from central Asia, where are those from the sub-continent and where are those of lesser known dominions. Bring forth your tongues and present them at the altar of truth.

So far we have;

German: Zi habben mein traktor gerstollen.

The best place to learn Chinese

Hope someone out there can help! Can anyone here help me with a simple question?

Which organisation offers the best Chinese language courses? I am not looking for  university level but rather somewhere that you go for a few hours each week to develop basic skills in both reading and speaking.

Hope someone out there can help!

A firm in the Australian outback is so desperate to attract good workers that it is offering successful applicants free beer for a year.

Wanted: A new bowling commissioner.

I will be relinquishing my position as bowling commissioner and am seeking a replacement.

The duties will be to go to the Redbuds hotel during business hours (before 4 pm) to purchase the tickets. Every Thursday the commissioner will be at the lanes from 7pm to sell the tickets to people wishing to play.

The benefits are that the tickets are 4 rmb and the commissioner will sell them for 5 rmb to cover "administrative" costs.

Anyone interested in doing this can contact me…
