For the most part, the Changchun Friends website is not very active and has been superseded by the Tencent "Wechat" app by the local expat community. This website is maintained sporadically, people may still join and membership is still open, but if you are a spammer, stay away. The archived information here is still useful, but some may be out of date. There are plans to make it more useful for static information in the future. If anyone needs information about Changchun or China, you may post a message and it probably will get a response but not immediately.

How Gangnam Style and Fifty Shades gave culture a spanking

As the year hurtles towards its climax, now is the moment for decision. In the cultural hit parade, it’s time to reveal what is Number One this Christmas. I know that some aesthetes will object to this simplistic hierarchy. You will say that it is like being forced to choose between Beethoven’s Fifth and the Sistine Chapel. Others will be partisans for one masterpiece or the other.

Ladeees and gentlemen, as we come to…

Ink-redible! Chinese woman who can write with BOTH hands at the SAME TIME in different languages

In this age of computers and smartphones, some of us are finding it harder and harder to write properly with one hand, let alone two.

But that is no such problem for Chinese translator Chen Siyuan.

She has been amazing onlookers with her ability not only to write with both hands at the same time, but do it in different languages - Chinese with one and English with the other.

Sir Patrick Moore, 1923-2012

http://www.spaceweather.com/

British astronomer and broadcaster Sir Patrick Moore died on Dec. 9, 2012, at the age of 89. Knighted for his dedication to astronomy outreach, the monocled host of BBC's The Sky at Night inspired millions of lay people to look at the sky and a fair number of children to grow up to be professional scientists. RIP to a great astronomer.

I remember watching him on PBS as a kid.

One Chinese Sentence Every Day(5)

萝卜白菜,各有所爱。

Luóbo báicài , gè yǒu suǒ ài.

Everyone has his own preference.

It uses an analogy between the individual taste on food and the individual favor. The former part provides two most common vegetables: Carrots and cabbages. And the latter part…
